“The Queen of Spring”
beltane 2022, black mountain, nc
This personal ceremonial installation was created in a cabin on black mountain, Nc, 2022. It is honoring Beltane, the ancient Celtic celebration of fertility, sacred union, and the vibrant energy of spring. Six fabric beings surround the altar representing the ancestral spirit guides, embodying harmony and balance between the spiritual and material worlds. At the center stands the queen of spring, adorned with a crown of dandelions from my lawn. Her crown of seeds and wishes symbolizes abundance, fertility & the incoming season of new life. She is surrounded with clematis, flame violet, fluorite, moss, lilac and dancing dandelion root beings.
A light veiled with green leaves to illuminates the scene, amplifying and honoring new life emerging and Eight candles stand on the altar representing the Celtic pagan Wheel of the Year. In Celtic culture, the wheel represents the cyclical nature of life, death, and rebirth and serves as a guide to understanding the changing seasons and their significance in spiritual and agricultural contexts. It is divided into eight festivals, each marking a key point in the seasonal cycle.
