“The Magnetic Unconscious, an Exploration”, 2025

A series of organic, interactive & elemental sculptures which consist of “Milkweed” , “Psyllium Husk” and “The Realm of the Human Unconscious”, came to being during Scorpio season in 2025. This was the perfect time to explore deep themes like the spirit and the unconscious.
In the series, the unconscious is represented by the combination of black and magnetic objects. Each sculpture is interactive and has a magnetic wand. This is meant to be explored over time as one is contemplating anything hidden. Not just beautiful works of art, these are tools of transformation.
They are a portrayal of what naturally occurs on earth; all things are created in the dark. The brain interprets signals in the darkness from outside the body ; a baby is created and formed in darkness of the womb. Deep space, thoughts, memories, spirit... all in the darkness or unseen with the eyes. During winter, seeds germinate in the cold underground during a time of dreaming, resting and receiving.
The magnetic component is mirroring the process of the unconscious that is made manifest into reality.

“The Realm of the Human Unconscious” is a representation of this elemental truth: Unconscious thoughts, memories, beliefs and emotions shape our experience in the now. They are also stored in the cells, organs, spirit and energy system of the person.
Using the magnetic wand, there are several ways to interact with the unconscious magnetism of the sculpture: through the body cavity and through the mind cavity in the back of the head.
Loadstone is a naturally magnetic piece of Magnetite. This gifts the natural power of attraction…through the motion of the wand going into the caverns, then bringing out what was inside, the body learns somatically about what is hidden, and what the person is magnetizing in their life.

“Psyllium Husk” sculpture contains the energies of getting unstuck, open discovery, play and creativity. The sculptural element flying high in this piece came about by chance. Accidentally mixing up water and psyllium husk (a dietary plant supplement), an unexpected gelatinous substance formed. Instead of being thrown away, it was spread thin and dehydrated in the oven. Seen in an entirely new way, it was painted and mounted.
Psyllium Husk is the part of the Desert Indian wheat plant that holds the seed. In the body, it assists in clearing waste helping the heart, bowels and lowering blood sugar.
Metaphorically in life, the seed of breakthrough can be found after debris is cleared. Seeing things in a fresh way, requires openness, creativity and play.

“Milkweed” is a sculpture honoring the Spirit of the plant. The sculpted face and the hidden 2 faces that appear inside of the black painted pod are the representation of that Spirit. The hair is made of the Milkweed “floss” and the eye is the seed. In the wild, this plant has an ingenious design, much like a dandelion, that acts like a parachute and can travel up to a mile or more riding the wind.
In relationship to the piece, the viewer can partner with this as magic or metaphor. As the seeds naturally release from the sculpture over time, they can be thought of as wishes carried off into the world, ready to be seeded and take root.
Mushrooms are only a tiny fruiting body of the greater informational organism, which exists mostly as a hidden underground network of threads called mycelium. They are the informational network of the soil, sharing nutrients and information throughout. This representation of staying rooted in the earth is important because it balances the high flight of the seed on the wind.
